A city with a rich past, Montreal shares 375 years of history and an architectural heritage that blends perfectly with new buildings that have a distinctly modern design. Widely recognized as a culinary capital, Montreal will charm foodies of all tastes.
A cosmopolitan city open to the world, Montreal is a real welcoming place for many communities that have found a wonderful place to live. It is no coincidence that the largest French-speaking city in North America attracts a large number of tourists every year who want to discover its wonders!
Downtown Montreal: a constantly bustling district
The Hotel Bonaventure is located in Downtown Montreal, which offers a genuine mix of everything the city has to offer. It is full of cultural attractions, including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, with works spanning several centuries, as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art, which is distinctly focused on contemporary artists. The most famous boutiques can be found on Sainte-Catherine Street, while Crescent Street is known for its lively bar scene. Also nearby, Chinatown, marked by its traditional doors, will satisfy the most curious palates with its many restaurants and food markets. This neighbourhood also has a brand-new access road opened as part of Montreal’s 375th anniversary: the Bonaventure Entrance. A true legacy of the city to its citizens, Michel de Broin’s Dentrites occupies a prominent place in the city, a few steps from the hotel.
The Quartier international de Montreal and its attractions
The Quartier international is a new urban area located between the business district and Old Montreal. A large-scale development and revival project, the QIM’s mission is to promote and develop Montreal’s international role. It is a truly contemporary, prestigious and exclusive environment, offering an exceptional quality of life a few meters from our hotel. With its superior development concept and its status as a hub for international activities in Canada, the Quartier has become Montreal’s main strategic growth sector. Rebuilding the link between two of Montreal’s top tourist destinations, the QIM is designed to showcase local talent and know-how in design and innovation. The redevelopment of Victoria Square with its series of fountains and the creation of Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle featuring his work La Joute are just some of the attractions that visitors can enjoy during their outing. Moreover, a cultural discovery walk, featuring 24 different attractions, is designed to help visitors discover the district’s hidden treasures.
Montreal underground: directly accessible from the Hotel Bonaventure
Montreal’s Underground City is a vast network of pedestrian bridges that extend below the surface. To give an idea of the scope of the network, nearly 30 kilometers of connecting areas, passages and junctions are located under the city center. Every day, more than 500,000 people travel through the underground city to work, go to university or do business in more than 1,700 shops and businesses. This makes it an ideal place to fully enjoy a day when the weather is not ideal for outdoor excursions. Hotel Bonaventure also has direct access to the metro network. This feature allows visitors to travel to a multitude of tourist destinations without even having to look outside. This is a significant advantage given Montreal’s sometimes harsh climate.
